Now that we know more of what Copenhagen is about, let’s get to the best part, the picture-perfect places, that will be a treat to your Instagram feed and, of course, your eyes!

  • Nyhavn

Yes, the place that shows up first on nearly every Copenhagen related article, the first pictures on Google when searching for Copenhagen.

Did you know that Nyhavn in direct translation from Danish means the ‘New Harbour’? Nyhavn was constructed by King Christian V from 1670 to the year 1675. Not so new in the year 2019, right? Right now, Nyhavn is the number one tourist attraction in Copenhagen. It is filled with restaurants that will satisfy every visitors taste buds.

The street besides the colourful buildings remains busy no matter the time of the year. In summer, you can have a pint of soda or cold beer to cool down. During winter months, a cup of mulled wine or tea will warm up the red noses and frozen fingers. All that treat while enjoying a wonderful view of colourful houses and yachts in the harbour. Oh, and of course, taking wonderful Instagram pictures.

Bring the beauty of Nyhavn to your everyday life! Make this poster a part of your home and enjoy the city longer than the trip lasts!

  • Christianshavn area

Christianshavn is an area in Copenhagen which offers a lot of diversity. You can catch some nature snaps, capture some Amsterdam-like atmosphere with canals where there are boats sitting still on both sides. The colourful, brick houses, one next to each other in the quiet streets are stunning.

The majestic Danish Royal Opera house in the Christianshavn area is a spectacular piece of architecture. The opera house was a gift to the Danish state from a Danish aristocrat Arnold Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller. Arnold’s father was the founder of Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller company. Mærsk has been the largest shipping company in the world since the year 1996.

Even though it is worth visiting Christianshavn at any time of the day, picture-wise it works perfectly together with pink and orange sunset sky. It almost feels like the sky colours fill up the river and warm up the water, taking care of the moving and ever standing boats. Golden hour at Christianshavn is a secret recipe for the perfect picture!

If you are a fan of golden hour colours, have a look at this poster! Bring the golden hour to your home!

  • Botanical Gardens

In Denmark, it tends to rain a lot. Especially during spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Jokes aside, it is not as bad.

However, in case your trip or day off happens to fall on a rainy day, a great option for a picture-perfect background and overall view is the Botanical Garden of Copenhagen! Dreamy rooms are full of green flowers on white, romantic style white stairs. Does it get any better than that?

A part of Botanical Gardens is also the butterfly house, which allows visitors to walk in a room full of colourful and exotic-looking butterflies. Otherwise, you would have to take a long flight across the world in order to take a picture of natural pieces of art like such butterflies! Take a visit and explore what this wonderful place has to offer.

  • Tivoli Gardens

In an uplifting mood after the idea of wonderful Botanical Gardens? The Tivoli Gardens might be just what you need! Tivoli is an amusement park right in the heart of Copenhagen. However, you don’t necessarily need to ride the attractions, in order to enjoy the park (but you also just might)! The park is unique by being able to bring joy to any visitor, no matter the age.

Beautiful scenery with historic buildings, lush gardens and exotic architecture. When the sun goes down and the sky is getting dark, thousands of lights are lit up and create a unique atmosphere that feels like a fairy tale. Tivoli is one of the first amusement parks in the world! By the way, did you know that Walt Disney found his inspiration for Disney World at Tivoli Gardens? This is a must-see for every visitor of Copenhagen and your Instagram followers will be thankful for sharing the wonderful views and sights. Trust us, they will want to come and see it too!

  • Amalienborg Palace and Frederik’s Church

Amalienborg Palace is the winter residence of the Danish Royal family. There are four palaces surrounding the Amalienborg Palace Square. Its prior function was to host high-ranking aristocrats. However, after Christiansborg Palace burned down in the year 1974, the Danish Royal Family chose Amalienborg as their residence and it has remained that way until the present day.

Less than 200 meters from Amalienborg, Frederik’s church stands in all its majesty. When looking at Frederik’s church from Amalienborg Castle Square, the architecture aligns in a spectacular way and will make your Instagram shine in all of its glory.

Psst, a little tip! If you stand in the centre of the square, turn your back to Frederik’s Church and have the picture taken from the riverside!

  • Krusemyntegade

If you are looking to spice up your Instagram feed with some colours, Krusemyntegade is the place to go.

Although you can find many colourful houses in a line in the smaller Danish cities, Copenhagen has transformed over time. This is what makes this street so special and unique. Because Copenhagen is known for the majestic, redbrick and modern architecture, this street represents the essence of Denmark, as houses on this street are bright colours and not as tall as you might mostly find around the city. Is your camera ready for this?

  • West Amager and Ørestad

The area of Ørestad and West Amager are a mix of water, architecture and nature. You will be surprised how photo-friendly this area is!

Architectural modern marvels right next to an untouched nature park. This will also bring an unusual perspective of Copenhagen to your eyes. This might not be the first suggestion on all of the city guides, but it is definitely worth a visit.

  • Christiansborg Palace with a view

This is the palace where the Royal family used to live until the fire in the year 1974, after which they moved to Amalienborg Palace. Now Christiansborg palace serves as the government building.

It’s possible to visit the tower of the palace, which allows you to overlook the city in all directions. Since Copenhagen does not hold many (or nearly any) skyscrapers, the tower viewpoint allows you to see very far away, as nothing is blocking your view. The yard of the palace is a wonderful sight from upstairs.

A recommendation: check out the palace yard from the ground as well! There are great picture spots all over the place.

  • Reffen

After a long day of taking pictures, your stomach is growling but you’re not looking to press pause on the Instagram journey? Alternatively, are you a food blogger?

You can find 36 (and counting) food stalls that offer the very best selection of foods. It is the largest street food market out of all Nordic countries and that counts for something! It feels like an urban playground because of the music, design of the surroundings and happy people.

Send the great mood from Reffen to your Instagram followers with fun, happy, and very tasty pictures. And enjoy the food!

  • Illum rooftop

Because Reffen closes their doors during winter months, a great place to have lunch during the cold season is Illum rooftop. On the top floor at Illum shopping centre, there are several cafes and restaurants, which offer tasty food options.

The best part – the view! You can look at Strøget, the main shopping street in Copenhagen, also the longest one in Europe. Your solution for Instagram lunch is Illum rooftop! If you are in Copenhagen at the time when the Christmas market is open (from November until January), the Illum terrace provides a view of the festivities. Go there when the sun is down and capture the magic!

  • Get lost on purpose
